A Frog in Search of a
New Pond |

WALK
NOT ON YOUR LEGS, BUT ON YOUR WILL
By Sanjay Anand
Ping is an
interesting book to read. With under 100 pages, the
fable of the journey of “A Frog in Search of a New
Pond”, is just about an hour’s read. Unless, you want to
slow down and re-read `pearls of wisdom (some might call
them truisms in new phraseology) over and over because
they are interestingly put in the context of the story.
Savour some: “To do is
to be,” or “Go with the flow, because the flow knows
where to go,” or “While we spend our time waiting for
happiness, happiness is always here waiting for us.” or
“Talent may open doors, but skill will allow you to go
through.”
The point is that most
of the inspirational stuff reads so much alike that it
all sounds all too familiar, with various reference
points forming up in your mind as you read along. No
matter how differently worded, the theme is constant.
There are quite a few
such reminiscences on Ping's journey in search of a new
pond, because the only one he knew dried up. It reminds
you of Paulo Coelho, Deepak Chopra, Neale Donald Walsch
and so on, “Have grace to make the universe your
partner;” “Faith in yourself must be a part of your
every action and thought,”; “Mistakes can be overcome
but inaction imprisons the soul.”; “Learn to become one
with the task in at hand, and then you become one with
the universe”; “Words form belief; belief forms action.”
and so on.
The message is simple
and simply told through Ping’s story: Have a vision, go
for it and on the way find a wise teacher, learn the
skills to nourish your talent and don’t give up.
And as you do that
listen to your inner voice that comes with deep quiet.
As for the tale itself,
it is soft and gentle, with a painful twist at the end
but is very positive in spirit. In the Epilogue, the
author, Stuart Avery Gold, tells an interesting story
about his tale and a factual newspaper report: New Frog
Jumps Thousands of Years. Remarkable Discovery Excites
Scientists.
Net, net, Ping can be a
wonderful gift for young people and business students.
And, for those who have gone through the ups and downs
of work and love and life and feel like stuck in the mud
when their pond has dried up -- a nice, gentle reminder
of the importance of living an intentional life, which
means that “what you do is one with what your are”.
